InBody Body Composition Analysis
Track what the scale can’t see
The bathroom scale tells you your total weight. It can’t tell you what’s fat, what’s muscle, and what’s water. For most patients, that distinction is what actually matters.
Objective numbers, visit after visit
Body composition tracking your plan is built on
Our Bellville, Durbanville and Panorama offices each run an InBody body composition analyser, giving your dietitian objective muscle, fat and body-water numbers instead of bathroom-scale guesswork.
You stand barefoot on the scanner, hold the handles, and under a minute later your dietitian has a results sheet used to build your plan and track your progress over time.
The printout
What InBody measures in 60 seconds
Total body fat
In kilograms and as a percentage, plus an estimated visceral fat level, a useful trend marker to follow alongside your waist measurement.
Muscle mass
Measured separately for each arm, each leg, and your torso: segmental analysis that spots imbalances and tracks rehab progress.
Body water
Your total body water, tracked scan to scan, which gives useful context when your weight moves quickly.
Basal metabolic rate
How many kilojoules your body burns at rest, the anchor for a realistic, personalised energy target.
Progress over time
Every scan is tracked against your last, so your plan is adjusted on evidence, not guesswork or the bathroom scale alone.
What InBody is not
A beauty assessment. It doesn’t tell you what you “should” look like. It tells us what your body is made of, so your plan is built on reality.
Who benefits most
When body composition changes the plan
Weight-loss patients
The number on the scale lies. InBody tells you whether your weight loss is fat loss (good) or muscle loss (bad), and without a body composition scan, you can’t tell the difference.
Patients on GLP-1 medication
Up to 40% of weight lost on GLP-1 medication can be muscle without the right plan. We scan at every visit and build protein-forward plans that protect your lean mass, your most important long-term asset.
Oncology patients
Cancer- and treatment-related cachexia is a muscle-wasting condition. InBody catches loss of lean mass before the scale shows weight loss, so we can intervene early with nutrition support.
Renal patients
Kidney disease puts muscle at risk. Tracking your lean mass scan by scan helps us protect it while we manage your potassium, phosphate and protein targets.
Diabetes patients
Muscle is your body’s primary glucose storage. Increasing lean mass improves insulin sensitivity, and we track it scan by scan.
Athletes & active patients
For anyone training seriously, tracking lean-tissue change is far more useful than tracking weight.
